Today Microsoft posted a blog entry showcasing the new Windows Explorer interface . Long story short, the new Windows Explorer UI in Windows 8 will be based around the ribbon . Here’s what it looks like: Self-parody? I’ve been reading people’s comments on this and it’s not surprising that there’s already some backlash against the [...]

WordPress is one of the best CMSs out there — if not the best (but of course, I’m biased because I’m a WordPress fanatic). It has loads of handy features that make site administration a breeze. WordPress is a publishing platform with a comment system, a GUI for creating, editing and managing posts and pages, [...]

By Paul Andrew As many of us know, the initial 15-20 seconds of a new user’s visit to a web site will have a large impact on whether on not they are going to like or dislike the site, prompting them to decide whether they will stay or go.

Back in March, Jacob Nielsen made a surprising recommendation for using "mega drop-down menus," saying that:

Big, two-dimensional drop-down panels group navigation options to eliminate scrolling and use typography, icons, and tooltips to explain the user's choices.

I've seen these types of menus popping up more often around the web, usually on e-commerce websites.

Now that they are a more widely recognized design convention, I thought it would be useful to pull together some of the best examples into a mega drop-down menu design showcase.

EA mega drop-down menu

As usual, if you have more examples to share, please send them my way or let me know in the comments.
