Logos don’t always have to feature perfectly designed abstract icons or devices, sometimes a basic hand drawn sketch or doodle can express the casual or fun values a brand is aiming for. This post rounds up a huge collection of over 50 cool logos all based on a hand drawn style.

We’ve been dabbling with infographic design at work as a way to generate backlinks. We recently published a new one about the rising issue of copper theft (hey, I work in the security industry). You can see it below:

As I’m still new to the whole business of creating infographics, I would be very interested in any feedback about this one. Do you like it overall? What elements work and which ones do not? Is it visual enough? That sort of thing. Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide.

I was pretty interested to read about a potential replacement for the venerable -9999px image replacement hack that we’ve been using for so many years, which Zeldman has christened the “Kellum Method.”
Apparently it will improve performance by a tiny amount on certain older devices so it’s certainly not a ‘must upgrade’ for me. On the other hand, the CSS is quite elegant, which makes me want to try it.

I’ve posted loads of Photoshop brushes and textures over the years, but this is actually my first set of completely vector grungy design resources. This bumper pack contains a bunch of textures, brush strokes and spraypaint drips to distress and erode your designs whilst maintaining the scalability of vector artwork.

I’m sure we all remember painting with sponge (or potato!) stamps as a child, but back then we didn’t really appreciate the cool distressed effect the printing technique created. Today designers and illustrators strive to add that retro/vintage style to their work with textures, so in this tutorial we’ll cover the process of creating a cute kids style illustration complete with a vector sponge stamp effect.
